CD cases can be expensive, and you may not always have one on hand when you burn a CD. However, you can quickly create your own CD envelope from any piece of standard, letter-size paper. By folding your own CD envelope, you can safely store and transport your CDs without scratches. Origami CD envelopes close securely and provide flat surfaces for track listings and CD names. All types of paper will work for this project as long as they're the right size.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Sheet of paper, 8.5 inches by 11 inches
  1. Step 1

Fold the paper in half from top to bottom. Press only the sides of the fold together. Don't crease the center fold.

  2. Step 2

Unfold the sheet. Divide the top side into fifths, either by pinching small creases or using a pencil to make light marks.

  3. Step 3

Fold the right and left sides of the paper to the center two fifth marks. Fold the bottom of the paper up to the half fold line you created in Step 1.

  4. Step 4

Pull out the inner layers of paper on the bottom fold to create "ears" or "wings."

  5. Step 5

Tuck the wings into the original side folds created in Step 3. This creates a pocket for your CD.

  6. Step 6

Fold each corner of the top of the paper to make small "dog ears." Fold the top of the paper to fit into the bottom half. The final product will be a square.

Tips & Warnings
  • Having a CD inside the pocket will help you make the correct fold in Step 6.
  • Decorate your CD envelope by using decorative paper; adding graphics and printing the page from your computer; or placing stickers on the outside of the envelope.
  • See the References section to download images of the folding process.
  • CD envelopes are not as stable as hard-shell CD cases. If you bend the CD envelope, you may break the CD.
