A Microsoft Xbox 360 controller must be properly aligned with a system in order to function. It is unlike the controllers of older products, many of which were simply plug and play. If you ever purchase a new one or if you take it out of the house to play with a friend or family member, you will need to understand how to get it setup. It can be frustrating when you just want to play video games but and this slight technicality is standing in your way. Do not worry: this guide should walk you through the process of syncing a system with a Microsoft Xbox 360 controller.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Provide power to the unit. You can do this with batteries or with a battery pack, whichever method you choose is fine so long as it is receiving power.

  2. Step 2

Press the "on" button on the console. It should light up.

  3. Step 3

Press the logo button in the center of the Microsoft Xbox 360 controller. You will know you have pressed it when you see green lights flashing in a circle.

  4. Step 4

Push the tiny white switch on the console. It is located on the front near the memory card slots.

  5. Step 5

Hit the small syncing button on the top of the Microsoft Xbox 360 controller. It should be located between the left and right bumper, near one of the areas where you would insert a device.

  6. Step 6

Wait for the lights to stop spinning around on the Microsoft Xbox 360 controller. They will settle in a particular quadrant, depending on which player spot is being occupied. When it stops that means it is synced up and ready for gaming.
