Step 1
First, take a look at the phone number you want to dial. Let's pretend for a minute that the telephone number you are calling looks like this +49 010 7642 2976
-
Step 2
Notice the + sign. When you dial your phone, you'll want to replace the + with the code of the country you are calling from. Let's presume we doing our telephone calling from the United States. The United States code is the number 011. Remember to enter the zero in front of this number
-
Step 3
The number after the plus sign is the code for the country you are calling. In our example, we use the number 49 which is Germany.
-
Step 4
The next number always, always kills me. See the 010 in our international phone number example above? You'll only see this if a country uses area codes. Believe it or not, when you dial this number, DROP the zero, only dial the two digits after the zero. I always forget this.
-
Step 5
Then dial the rest of the number.
-
Step 6
To put this all together, say you are dialing in the United States to another country. If the number is +49 010 7642 2976, using the rules above, you would dial, 011 49 10 7642 2976.
