Be a Camp Counselor

One of the best jobs to have on your college resume is summer camp counselor. Why? Because it shows that you have developed leadership skills, knows how to work in teams, a great organizer, able to work well in diverse groups, and have gained a lifelong amount of camp survival skills. Other than that, being a camp counselor can reap some of the best benefits. For those who are planning to go into careers in education, child psychology, or any other avenue that works with children, starting off working as a camp counselor can not only give you insight into working with children, but can help you find your inner child as well.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start off by doing an internet search, preferably "google-ing" summer camp counselor jobs. There should be a whole host of website that are actively recruiting teens and young adults for camp counseling positions. When you find them, carefully browse through the many types of camp counseling jobs to see what type would work best for you.

  2. Step 2

Keep in mind that there are day camps, overnight camps, and camps that go on for many months. Also consider whether or not you would like to temporarily relocate. There are many out of state summer camps that would love to recruit teens and young adults, even pay for their travel expenses, if they feel that you have what it takes. Always conduct a Better Business Beaura search on these campsites to ensure that they are reputable.

  3. Step 3

Talk to people that you may know in your community and ask about summer camp opportunities. You would be surprised to find out how many day camps are in need of camp counselors.

  4. Step 4

Earnestly prepare and do all the research you can on what this job entails. Become trained in first aid, swim or life guard instruction, and CPR, to ensure that you are totally qualified for the position. Practice with younger siblings or relatives on keeping children safe, yet entertained through activity planning and learning. Offer babysitting services and ask for a reference/recommendation on how well you performed your job.
