Fill your home with the delicious, comforting smell of vanilla all year long, even when you are not baking. Making your own air fresheners is easy, costs literally pennies and produces a final product that's much healthier to use in your home than commercial odor-removing sprays.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 package of unflavored gelatin
  • Vanilla fragrance oil
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • Food coloring, optional

    Make a Gelatin Air Freshener

  1. Step 1

Place one-fourth of a cup of water into a small saucepan and heat on high until boiling.

  2. Step 2

Reduce the temperature to medium and add the unflavored gelatin to the water. Stir the mixture constantly until the gelatin is dissolved.

  3. Step 3

Remove the pan from the stove. Add one-fourth of a cup of cold water to the gelatin mixture and stir well.

  4. Step 4

Place 10 to 20 drops of vanilla fragrance oil into the gelatin mixture and stir until well incorporated. Add three or four drops of food coloring to the mixture for added color or leave it plain instead.

  5. Step 5

Pour the gel into a clean, glass jar and place it in the refrigerator to cool for one to two hours.

  6. Make Air Freshener Spray

  7. Step 1

Pour water and alcohol into a small dish and stir until combined.

  8. Step 2

Add 15 to 20 drops of vanilla fragrance oil to the water and alcohol mixture and combine.

  9. Step 3

Add four to six drops of food coloring to the mixture if desired and stir well.

  10. Step 4

Pour the mixture into an eight-ounce spray bottle and shake well.

  11. Step 5

Spray the air freshener around every room and on upholstery and fabric to freshen the air in your home. Use the spray daily for best results.
