How to Do Hair Pin Lace
Hair pin lace is a type of crochet in which yarn or thread is worked around a hair pin loom, basically a two-pronged fork, with a crochet hook. Hair pin lace is an easy craft to master and can be used to make afghans and baby clothes with wool yarn and a wide hair pin loom; lace edgings out of fine cotton thread with a smaller hair pin loom; or edging for curtains, mats and pillows out of coarse cotton or linen. Experiment with different sizes of looms and different materials to create a variety of items.

1
Remove the bar at one end of the loom, make a slip knot in the thread or yarn, and slide it over the left prong, positioning it in the middle. Reattach the bar at the end.
-
2
Wind the yarn around the right prong front to back and hold it tightly behind the left prong. Insert the crochet hook under the front strand of the knot on the left prong and hook it onto yarn being held at the back. Bring it through the front strand of the knot to form a loop on the crochet hook.

3
Pick up the yarn at the back with the crochet hook. This is called yarn over. There will now be two loops on the hook.
-
4
Draw the outer loop through the inner loop on the crochet hook, leaving one loop on the hook.
-
5
Remove the loop from the crochet hook and pick it up again with the crochet hook behind the right prong. Turn the loom clockwise. This causes the yarn to wrap around what is now the right prong to form another loop. The crochet hook is now at the front of the loom.
-
6
Repeat Steps 3, 4 and 5, picking up the yarn at the back so there are two loops on the hook and then drawing the back loop through the first for one loop and removing the hook from the loop and turning the loom around.
-
7
Remove the loops as the loom fills up, tying an overhand knot around the last loop at the end of the project.
