1
Dig the post holes. Lay out a string where you want your fence. Dig a post hole every eight feet. Be sure to dig below the frost level in the ground. Otherwise, your posts may be uprooted by a heavy frost.
-
2
Lay the posts next to the holes. This will help as you begin filling the holes with wet cement.
-
-
3
Mix a small batch of cement. To avoid having the cement dry out, mix only enough for a few post holes at a time.
-
4
Place the post in the hole and fill it with concrete. You want to make sure the bottom of the hole is wider than the top.
-
5
Plumb or level the posts vertically, before the cement hardens. Use a level to ensure they are vertical.
-
6
Wait for the concrete to dry. You do not want to touch the posts until the concrete has completely dried. This might mean waiting a day before finishing the fence.
