How to Dress Like a Rich Woman
If you can't afford to spend a fortune on clothes, you don't have to. This morning I put on a three-piece coordinated outfit that cost less than $15 total. I had a long-sleeved animal print top, a lined blazer, and a knit skirt. If you want to save 75% to 90% or more off retail, read on. You, too, can shop smart and dress like a rich woman.

Shop the nice department stores on big sale and clearance days. Sign up for store credit cards at your favorite department stores if you don't already have them. No, you shouldn't buy any more than you can afford to pay for when the bill comes. Don't go into debt. But take advantage of the special sales and discounts you get in the mail. Also take advantage of coupon sales in the newspaper. I bought my name-brand animal print top for about $6 with an additional percent off clearance at a nice department store.

Shop the off-price stores. Be sure always to look at their clearance racks. My fully-lined blazer came from the clearance rack at my favorite off-price store and cost about $4. There are three chains in my area, and I shop all of them. My favorite one has more stores near my home and the lowest prices. The clearance racks sometimes have two-piece suits or dresses for under $10. For that price, I will even buy a suit for the jacket and donate the skirt. Check these stores every week or two so you don't miss the best bargains. Check the regular price merchandise as well as the clearance since some of the clothing is priced at 75% off to begin with.

Get over your aversion to consignment stores and thrift stores. Remember that you can dry clean or wash anything you buy. Know you size in various brands, or take a tape measure if you don't want to try things on before they are cleaned. Or, wear light-weight clothing and try things on over your clothes. Shop these stores for prices of over 90% off on a regular basis. My knit skirt, in the same color as the jacket but a darker tone, came from a thrift store and cost about $3.

Look for luxury items you could not normally afford at all three of these types of stores. I have seen many expensive formal gowns at ridiculous reductions in department stores and off-price stores. I have seen leather purses at 90% off in department stores. I have bought designer handbags and shoes worth hundreds of dollars for under $10 at thrift stores. I once bought a fake-fur mink designer jacket for 50 cents at a thrift store. It needed a little repair that I was able to do by hand. It went into the washing machine and came out like new. I wore it for years and felt like a million.

Wherever you shop, mix and match your clothes and accessories with what you have. Buy some fun things if you like, but be sure to buy a basic wardrobe of classics in colors that work together. If you buy at 90% or more discount, you can afford the best quality, so buy classic clothing and accessories you can wear for years. Then, even on the tightest budget, you can dress like a rich woman.
