How to Take Care of an Indoor Orchid

Orchids are a beautiful flower that make any home go from bland to eclectic. They are the perfect design feature for modern and Asian inspired designs, but they are also wonderful assets even if your home is traditional. They key to having an orchid is taking care of it properly. Follow the steps below and you'll not only have a gorgeous, exotic flower, but a new addition to your home.

Things You'll Need:

  • Plant holder
  • Fertilizer
  • Fern Fiber
  • Orchid
  • Sunlight
  • Humidifier
  • Thermometer
  1. Step 1

    Choose a plant holder that has ventilation on the sides and use a base that allows drainage such as fern fiber.

    Water the orchid no more than once a week otherwise it will drown. You will know when it is time to water when it is dry. If it feels moist then it is not time to water.

    Check the temperature of the orchid each day. Do not let the temperature drop below 60 at night or go above 80 during the day.

    Give your orchid plenty of light as it thrives on sunshine. Place your orchid near a window that receives plenty of natural sunlight.

    Remove flowers that have been pollinated by insects because they will collapse otherwise.

    Place a humidifier in the room where the orchid is placed if your house does not have a humidity level over 50%.

  • Do not over-water your orchid.
  • Keep orchids away from pets.
