Things You'll Need:
- A forum where you can blog (there are many free web sites that offer this service)
- A specific idea on which you can elaborate
- A computer
- paper and pen (optional)
-
Step 1
After you have signed up for a free blogging site or set up your own website, find an idea to write about. Try to be specific instead of broad. Instead of writing about your trip to the Rocky Mountains, write about an interesting character you met in a diner there.
-
Step 2
Next, determine the tone of your post. What are you trying to communicate? Is it funny? Did it make you feel sadness? Think of how the reader will feel when reading your post.
-
Step 3
This is the most important step: Find your voice. Think of your audience. My posts are very personal, and I write like I am talking to a close friend. It is important when writing a personal post that your reader gets to know you while reading it. Be as real and personal as you can, it is more genuine that way.
-
Step 4
Now, it's time to write it out. You can do a rough draft on paper or just write on the computer. There are several ways to start - you can start with a question (i.e. "Did you ever wonder who hangs out at Lucy's Diner on a Tuesday Morning? Well, I'll tell you.") or a broad statement (i.e. "Sometimes you meet the most interesting people in small towns). Then, provide a little background (you've never been to that town, or you visit that diner every time you go), get to your main point (what did you learn from meeting this person?) and sum it up briefly with a witty comment.
