Things You'll Need:
- A desire to write and share your knowledge and life experiences
-
Step 1
So now, newly retired, and in an area with less stress and congestion, I thought I was in heaven. Sadly this feeling of bliss only lasted for a short time for me. After watching a story on the evening news, about a young lady who was making extra money by writing articles on the internet, I learned about a site on the internet called eHow. It was really simple; sign up for free, and write articles on how to do things. That sounded simple enough. After forty years of work, raising a family, living in two homes and moving to a new city, I knew how to do lots of things; probably more than I realized.
-
Step 2
So I started writing articles, and for awhile they just seemed to flow freely. And then the dreaded writers block set in, and I had to take a break. I was very disappointed in myself; I wasn’t able to keep writing at the pace I was going. My articles weren’t making any money; it was so discouraging. But I found after taking time to get to know other writers at the eHow site that I was getting fresh ideas from them and feeling inspired to write again. And then the money actually started coming; finally rewards for all of my hard work.
-
Step 3
eHow was just the beginning for me; I was soon motivated to start blogging and learning more about how the internet works in terms of search engines, keywords, SEO’s and the power of advertising.
Now my life is beginning to take a new direction. I’ve actually started feeling like I’m going to work in the morning like I used to do. Only this time I’m not facing a long commute and I can go to work in my pajamas! I also feel as if I’m back in school, as I do research on a daily basis, learning new things about writing articles and other material online. Realizing the need to advertise more, I’ve started a Twitter account. This really has opened the internet world to me as I continue to meet new people and see what they are doing to market their material. -
Step 4
Writing articles has definitely been therapeutic for me. It has given me a new direction in my life, introduced me to so many wonderful friends and colleagues. It really is a job, but one where you can work at your own pace and there’s no need for leave request forms if you decide to take a break for a few days.
If you are new to this, it is important to take the time to get to know your fellow writers. They are your support group and can give you good feedback on your work. Write for as many sites as you can. You will learn more and you will also find more writers to give you fresh ideas, just when you are running out of material.
I hope that you will find writing as rewarding and therapeutic as I have.
