How to Choose a Name for Your Blog

Your blog is your brand. Who are you? What are you going to write about? Choosing the right name for your blog can help inspire you, and also ensure that you stay disciplined about writing.

1. Brainstorm.
   Interview yourself. What do you want people to know about you? Your blog name is the first thing your readers will see. Is your blog going to be informative, fun, educational? Your blog name should reflect the theme of your writing

2. Ask your friends.
   Once you have your shortlist of blog names, ask your friends for their opinions. Are you going for funny? Sarcastic? Make sure your friends "get it." If they don't... your readers won't.

3. Decide on a domain or subdomain-style blog.
   If you are going with a free blog provider like wordpress or blogspot, you'll need to check subdomain availability. Before you get too attached to your name, make sure it's available.
   
   If you are going to host your own blog, you'll need to register a domain name. Again, you'll need to make sure that your name is available. Don't give up if your first choice is taken. Go back to step 1 and re-evaluate.

4. Register your name as a domain or subdomain.
   Once you're name is registered, you're official! Now to the hard part-keeping up a blog.

• Be original. Think of a play on words or a variation on something you love.
• Make sure the name you choose reflects your passion.
• Keep it simple. The longer or more complex your blog name is, the harder it will be for people to find it.
