Tips & Warnings
Prevent clutter by always putting things where they belong and routinely organize your storage space. Make the space more efficient by creating labels (clothing, holiday decorations, etc) so you can easily find items and easily find boxes when putting items away.
Make room for new belongings by using the three-box method and selling, giving away, or throwing out things you no longer use.
When the seasons change, evaluate what's in your closet. To keep closets uncluttered, move heavy winter jackets into storage during the summer months.
Avoid going to garage sales, flea markets, souvenir shops, and other places where you are likely to buy large quantities of things you do not need and may never use. This will spare you from having to remove clutter as frequently.
Expanding your storage space or moving to a bigger home is not always the answer. You will just end up cluttering the new space, so it's better to be organized with what you already have.
