Instructions

    • 1

Pour the potting soil into a large bowl. Mix in warm water until it is moist throughout, but not enough to thin the texture.

    • 2

Fill up the pot about two thirds of the way with the prepared potting soil. Place the bulb in the soil with the pointed end facing upward. This is the end that grows into a flower. Cover the bulb completely with more potting soil.

    • 3

Water the soil and bulb thoroughly and place the flower pot into a warm room. Keep the soil moist until you see a shoot appear, then place the pot near a sunny window. Keep the pot's saucer full of water to ensure adequate moisture. Expect a bloom in about two to four months. According to White Flower Farm, calla lilies thrive in almost soggy soil.

    • 4

Move the potted plant to a place outside during the summer where it can easily get full sun throughout the day. Prepare a hole that is 4 inches deep for best results, according to the Gardening Know How. This should be done when there is no danger of frost in early autumn. Fertilize once a month during the growing season.
