1
Gently pull the petals from fresh rose blossoms. Place the individual petals onto a sheet of wax paper. Cover the petals with another sheet of wax paper. Insert the bundle between the pages of the back of a phone book.
-
2
Add 20 pounds of uniform weight on top of the phone book. The best way to keep the weight uniform is to stack other books, one on top of the other. Leave the stack alone for three weeks to two months.

-
3
Remove the wax paper from the phone book and look at your rose petals. They should be completely flat, but the color should still be good.
-
4
Spray paint a wooden or metal tray. You can find unfinished wooden trays at craft stores; metal trays are often available at thrift stores and yard sales. Let the paint dry.
-
5
Apply a medium coat of decoupage medium with a paint sponge to the spot on the tray where you plan to place the rose petals. It is not necessary to cover the entire tray with decoupage medium at this point unless you are planning to cover the tray with rose petals. Press the rose petal into the decoupage glue. Decoupage glue goes on cloudy, but dries clear.
-
6
Smooth the glue over the face of the rose petal with an artist's brush. Let the glue dry.
-
7
Apply another coat of decoupage glue to the top of the tray, even where you did not place rose petals. The glue will protect the paint finish and add a glossy sheen to the tray.
