Many basements have sliding windows that are large enough for a man to fit through and have poor locking mechanisms. Inserting a pin makes them significantly harder to open, making your basement more secure.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Drill
  • Drill bit
  • Screw or pin
  1. Step 1

Close your window. Ensure the window is completely sealed and locked in place.

  2. Step 2

Drill a hole in the bottom part of the frame. This hole should be the right size for your pin or screw and be as close as possible to the sliding part of the window. Ensure the hole goes through the entire frame.

  3. Step 3

Insert pin or screw. A screw offers you greater security, but makes the window almost impossible to open. A pin offers you more flexibility to open the window but also could potentially slip out of place if the window is hit from the outside.

Tips & Warnings
  • Purchase a piece wood that will fit into your window's track. This will give you extra security.
