Instructions

1
Inflate a balloon using the air blower and tie it onto the fishing line. Secure the fishing line in a knot around the balloon end so that the balloon cannot slip off the line.
-
2
Inflate another balloon, making sure it is a different color and size, and tie it around the fishing line. Slide it up the line until it rests against the first balloon.
-
-
3
Continue adding balloons to the line, varying both size and color, until there are approximately 20 balloons clustered together on the line. The smallest balloons should be inflated to only about 6 or 8 inches, the largest, to about 9 1/2 inches.
-
4
Pull an extra two feet of fishing line off the spool and cut it free, so that you have a cluster of balloons with extra line at the end.
-
5
Grab the first balloon at the knot with one hand and the line on the end balloon with the other. Wad the balloons into a tight cluster, using the excess fishing line to secure them together. When finished, the cluster should resemble a tight cluster of leaves. Set aside. Repeat for as many clusters as desired for the size of the tree.
-
6
Cut a length of fishing line long enough to go around the branches of your fake tree trunk with about two feet to spare. Hold one of the clusters up to the tree until you are satisfied with the placement of the leaf cluster, then use the fishing line to secure it by tying one end to the inside of the balloon cluster and the other end tightly around the branch or trunk. Be certain to pull the line tight and wrap it several times to avoid slippage. Continue adding clusters until your tree trunk is covered with balloon foliage.

Tips & Warnings
The more variation in the size and color of the balloons, the more natural the tree will look. If the tree need only last for one day, it is possible to fill the balloons with helium instead of air to create a taller, fuller effect. It is also possible to make the entire tree from balloons, using a balloon column in shades of brown for the trunk.
Use caution when pulling on the fishing line as the line can cut through skin.
