How to Remove Pine Needles from a Pool Screen

If your pool screen has stopped providing a light shade and starting veiling your recreational area in darkness, thanks to pine needles stuck in the screens that shelter the area, then it is time to get your pine needle problem under control. While cutting back branches in the general area may cut down on needle buildup, it is unlikely that this will entirely resolve the problem. Fortunately, a broom and some customized tools should do the trick.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Broom
  • Pine comb
  • Pine roller
  1. Step 1

Sweep as many of the needles off the screen as you possibly can, using the broom. Use light pressure so that you do not distort your screens. Many of the needles will come loose but not all of them. Do not spend much time trying to dislodge needles that will not come loose. You can get them later.

  2. Step 2

Use the pine comb to remove additional needles. This device looks like a rake with thick tines. It will pass smoothly over the surface of the screen and snag the pine needles as it passes. They will come loose from the screen when the pine comb drags over them. You will need to clean out the comb periodically so that it will grab more needles.

  3. Step 3

Roll off the last of the needles using the pine roller. This works much like a lint roller. The loosened needles that the comb left behind will stick to the roller. When you have finished, your screen should be needle free.
