Create a beautiful table runner for a wedding celebration. Making one with white fabric is the nicest and one that can be used again for other occasions or weddings. Lay the runner over a long table cloth down the center of the table where the bride and groom and members of the bridal party will sit. A table runner can be made with any of the colors of the wedding celebration and not necessarily white. In any event, it will certainly enhance a party table.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Measure the length of the table that will display a table runner. Add 25 inches to determine the total length for the fabric necessary. This takes into consideration the completed table runner will hang 12 inches over each end of the table.

  2. Step 2

Decide on the width of the table runner. It's a personal choice but the width can range from 12 inches or more. Add 1 inch to the width measurement. Purchase sufficient fabric both for the top of the runner and as a liner. Look for washable fabric if the runner will be reused.

  3. Step 3

Cut the fabric to the necessary measurements for width and length.

  4. Step 4

Place and align both the top table runner fabric and the lining fabric right side in.

  5. Step 5

On the sewing machine, straight stitch 1/2 inch from the edges of the table runner fabrics on the two long and one short side and halfway down the other short side.

  6. Step 6

Turn the sewn table runner right side out, using the closed end of scissors to poke and shape sharp corners.

  7. Step 7

Press the runner with a hot iron (steam) to make neat seams. Press the open end as well, making sure the edges are tucked in 1/2 inch.

  8. Step 8

Sew 1/2 inch in all around the four sides of the table runner to make a nice finish. Press with a hot iron one more time.

Tips & Warnings
  • Since fabric on bolts can be wider than needed, an option is to purchase fabric in a length that can be cut, pieced and sewn together to create the length of the table runner.
