How to Get Rid of Skunk Spray
Almost everyone has heard that taking a bath in tomato juice is the best way to get rid of the odor if you are sprayed by a skunk. And citrus-based concoctions are almost as popular a remedy for skunk smell as tomato juice. Unfortunately, as those who have been sprayed by a skunk can attest, neither tomato nor citrus juice really work well. Fortunately, there is a recipe that does work and is used by some professional critter catchers.
Things You'll Need
- Bucket
- Washcloth
- Wooden spoon
- 1 quart hydrogen peroxide
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 tsp. dish soap
- Clean water

How to Get Rid of Skunk Spray

Rinse the eyes immediately with clean water if any of the skunk spray has gotten in them.

Mix 1 quart hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda and 1 tsp. dish soap in a bucket. Stir well.

Immediately wash the person or animal the skunk sprayed with the hydrogen peroxide solution. The mixture can be used as both a soap and shampoo, if needed.

Rinse the sprayed individual with plain water.

Reapply the skunk odor removal mixture and rinse again, if necessary.

Dispose of any remaining odor removal mixture. Do not store the mixture as it will cause sealed containers to burst.
