Put a smile on a friend's face with a handmade greeting card. Whether it's to celebrate a special birthday, send get-well thoughts or an expression of sympathy, reveal your creative ability with a few simple materials and embellishments. Make a pretty three-dimensional card that is sure to please. No artistic ability is necessary, just a desire to show a friend how much you care. This project also will appeal to children who want to give a card to grandparents or teachers.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • white-card stock
  • paper cutter
  • decorative papers
  • scissors, plain and fancy
  • double-sided tape
  • peel and stick foam images and letters
  • markers
  • hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • embellishments
  • A-7 envelope (to fit a 5-inch-by-7-inch card)
  1. Step 1

Cut a white-card sheet on the paper cutter into 10 inches by 7 inches. Fold it in half and make a crease. This makes a 5-inch-by-7-inch blank card.

  2. Step 2

Choose a piece of decorative paper to fit a theme appropriate for the friend the card is being made for. Cut it on the paper cutter to 4 inches by 6 inches. Trim the edges with fancy scissors. Attach it to the front of a blank card with double-sided tape.

  3. Step 3

Add peel-and-stick themed\- foam images. Attach embellishments with a hot glue gun. Embellishments can include assorted plastic buttons, charms, little fake flowers and wrapped candy or lollipops.

  4. Step 4

Write a personal message inside the card with markers such as "Thinking of You", "Wish You a Speedy Recover", "Wishing You the Best Birthday Ever!" or "Celebrate, Celebrate, Celebrate!"

Tips & Warnings
  • Make several blank cards in Step 1 for an assortment of cards to have ready to create when needed.
  • Free wallpaper sample books contain beautiful decorative papers. The books are available at home-decor shops.
  • If children are participating in this project, only adults should handle the paper cutter and hot glue gun.
