How to Remove Oven Cleaner from Linoleum

You are cleaning your oven and you are hating the task. You decided to use a commercial oven cleaner to make the job go quicker. The only problem---the job is still taking too long and now you have spilled some oven cleaner on your linoleum floor. You panic. Oven cleaner is caustic and can easily eat into your linoleum flooring. You can get the oven cleaner off your linoleum, but you need to work fast to get it up. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Rubber gloves
  • Nose mask
  • Rags or shop towels
  • Trash bag or can
  • Warm water
  • Bucket
  • Comet cleanser
  • Brush
  • Paper towels

Instructions

    • 1

      Put on a pair of rubber gloves, if you are not already wearing a pair. Wear a nose mask to keep from inhaling the oven cleaner.

      Wipe up as much of the oven cleaner you can with a rag or shop towel. Use as many rags or shop towels as needed.

      Place the soiled rags or shop towels in a trash bag or can.

      Pour 3 cups of warm water into a bucket.

      Add 2 cups of Comet or another brand of similar cleanser to the bucket of warm water.

      Agitate the cleanser/water mixture with a brush.

    • 7

      Apply the mixture with a brush to the spot where the oven cleaner spilled.

      Let the cleanser/water mixture set for 15 minutes.

      Use several paper towels to gently wipe up the cleanser/water mixture. Discard the paper towels in a trash bag or can.

      Dry the area with a paper towel.

  • Work quickly and leave the kitchen area if you start to feel light-headed from the oven cleaner fumes.
