- Hair color

Step 1
Purchase a hair color that is specific to coloring gray hair. Hair dyes that are not specifically made to color gray hair will change the color but will not last as long.

Make sure you have your gloves, towel and box of hair dye before beginning the process.

Open the box of hair dye. Follow the instructions on the box or container. Usually they will instruct you to mix the activator with the hair color.

Perform a strand test with the hair dye to make sure your are not allergic to it. Apply a very small amount of hair dye on a small section of your hair. You will have to wait a day or two to make sure you are not allergic to the hair dye.

Apply the hair dye onto your hair. Make sure your hair is evenly saturated with the dye. Make sure the gray hair is covered with it.

Wait 15 minutes before washing out the hair dye. The wait time is given so the coloring process can begin. Make sure you read the instructions on the hair dye because they may have different wait times.

Step 7
Wash out the hair dye until the water is clear. Use the conditioner that came in the box afterward.

Style your newly colored hair as desired.
