How to Remove Engine Rust

Removing engine rust is essential to making sure that the integrity of the engine block isn't compromised. Rust is like cancer for automobiles; it ruins the structural integrity of all engine components. Getting to the rust and treating it fast is essential. If it spreads farther than even a centimeter into the block, the engine structure can be compromised, and eventually the block can be completely destroyed.

Things You'll Need

• 600 grit sandpaper
• Wire brush
• Water and clean towel
• Rust converter
• Application brush

Instructions

1. Wipe down the engine with 600 grit sandpaper or a wire brush to remove all loose rust.

2. Wash the area clean with water, and dry it thoroughly with a clean towel.

3. Brush on some rust converter with an application brush. Cover any areas that still have surface rust with rust converter, and allow the converter to dry. Then apply a second coat of rust converter.
