How to Use Potted Plants As Centerpieces

Build your centerpieces around potted plants instead of floral arrangements for your wedding or home decor. Potted plants are less expensive than cut fresh flowers and last much longer. For wedding centerpieces, they offer another keepsake from your big day that you can enjoy in your home, as well as allow guests to take them home at the end of the night.

Instructions

    • 1

Use terracotta pots as your containers. They are easy to paint in any color you desire, or you can leave them in their natural color. Stencil on a design that goes with your wedding theme or the rest of your decor.

    • 2

Place one large potted plant at the center of each table, allowing for small decorative items to go around it. Another option is to use three different potted plants as a centerpiece to incorporate different plants or create a larger display for larger tables.

    • 3

Arrange smaller items around a single potted plant. This may include unscented votive or tea light candles, silk rose petals, seed packet favors or small, individual plant pots used as favors.

    • 4

Tie a ribbon around the pot if there is no other decoration or if you want to dress it up a bit more. Use the colors of your wedding or the surrounding decor. Insert a little sign featuring the table name or number to help guests find their seats.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a different plant at each table if you're having trouble deciding.

  • Use unscented candles in any color as they are more appropriate and don't overpower the natural scent of the plant.

  • Plants don't need any additional decoration around them. If you do choose to add something, keep it small so the focus is still on the plant.

  • You can place a doily, tray or charger under the pot if you desire.
