If you've ever put your eyeliner in your pocket, and then run it through the dryer, then you know the huge mess that can be the result. Eyeliner is made out of a waxy base with pigments that can wreak havoc on your dryer. Luckily, you can clean it out of your dryer much like you would a melted crayon stain. With the right products and some careful cleaning, you can clean the eyeliner out of your dryer drum, and then post a note to remind yourself to always clean our your pockets in the future.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Turn the dryer on for five minutes to allow it to heat up, with nothing inside. Heating the dryer will make the eyeliner easier to wipe away, as it will melt and become softer. When you turn it off, touch the inside of the dryer to make sure it isn't too hot to clean easily. If it is, allow it to cool off for two minutes before attempting to clean.

  2. Step 2

Start with a clean rag, and dampen it with eye makeup remover. You can purchase eye makeup remover from any major drugstore. It is specially formulated to take off the waxy residue of eyeliner pencils and mascara.

  3. Step 3

Hold the dampened rag on top of the streaks of eyeliner for a moment, letting the eye makeup remover break down the pigments as if you were cleaning your eyes with the makeup. The eye makeup remover will emulsify the waxiness of the eyeliner, making it easier to wipe away--30 seconds to one minute should be enough.

  4. Step 4

Drag the rag down to remove the melted eyeliner. You may leave streaks behind, so go back and scrub them away with your rag still wet with eye makeup remover. If it dries, re-wet it to make sure you get the most cleaning power from it.

  5. Step 5

Rinse the dryer lightly with a rag that is damp with water to remove any excess residue.

  6. Step 6

Examine the dryer to look for missed spots. If it looks clean, add a load of clean, damp towels into the dryer. Turn the dryer on, and allow the towels to rinse the eye makeup remover residue from the walls of the dryer. These damp towels will also seek out any missed spots and wipe away small traces of eyeliner, leaving you with a clean dryer.
