A fashion doll collection can begin with a nostalgic childhood toy, an impulsive purchase or as an offshoot of another collections. Fashion dolls include the iconic Barbie but also a variety of other dolls. Fashion dolls typically range from 10 inches to 15 inches tall and most commonly have an adolescent or womanly figure, as opposed to a childlike one. Fashion doll collecting often includes beautiful clothing for the dolls and may even include complex and elaborate displays.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start with a single doll. Begin your collection with just one doll that you love, whether it is a vintage 1960s Barbie, the latest limited-edition Blythe doll or a Hollywood glamor-style doll.

  2. Step 2

Decide what kind of collector you are. Keep your dolls in their original packages to preserve the most value. Dress, pose and play with your dolls if you enjoy making your collection more a part of your daily life.

  3. Step 3

Design and create a display space for your collection. Assign shelves for your fashion doll collection or even create an oversized dollhouse where the dolls can reside. Allow for storage of clothing, accessories and other items to keep your doll collection in good condition over time.

  4. Step 4

Expand your collection by adding dolls, as well as clothing and accessories for your dolls. Focus your collection to create a cohesive display and allow you to share clothing and other items between your dolls. Craft items for your dolls, ranging from simple furniture to elaborate couture gowns, if you like. Explore customizing your own fashion dolls for a creative addition to your collection.

  5. Step 5

Connect with other fashion doll collectors. Network with others who collect fashion dolls to find good deals on dolls, learn more information about the dolls you own and swap accessories and other items. Find groups of doll collectors online or in your local area at doll and collectible shows. Share your passion. Offer to display your dolls at the local library or teach others about fashion doll collecting. Expand your own social network as you collect fashion dolls.

  6. Step 6

Value your collection. Have your collection insured, if appropriate. Consider whether you have rare or valuable dolls. Speak to your home owner's insurance agent about insurance for your fashion doll collection.
