Instructions

    • 1

Bake your cake according to the instructions or recipe. Place the cake on a cake tray or large piece of cardboard covered in aluminum foil once it's cooled.

    • 2

Cover the top two-thirds of the cake with yellow frosting. For the remaining third of the cake, use white frosting for the top half (abutting the yellow frosting) and brown for the bottom half.

    • 3

Carefully draw the features of SpongeBob's face, his tie, shirt outline and belt with a toothpick. Reference a color picture of SpongeBob while you do this. If you make a mistake, simply smooth the icing and start over.

    • 4

Use the tube of black icing to outline his eyes, nose, smile, two teeth, tie and shirt and to fill in his belt and eyelashes. Follow the lines you made with the toothpick.

    • 5

Fill in SpongeBob's eyes with the blue frosting, then add the M&Ms in the center of his eyes to make his pupils. Use the red frosting to make little dimples above his smile and fill in his tie.

    • 6

Insert the yellow gumdrops at various points of his "body" to make the sponge spots.

    • 7

Put one large marshmallow on each side of his body just above where his white shirt starts. Roll two of the large Tootsie Rolls, making them thinner and longer, then place them so they appear to be his arms coming out of the marshmallow shoulders. Cover the Tootsie Rolls with yellow frosting.

    • 8

Manipulate the two small Tootsie Rolls into hands. Fold them over themselves, then smash them and pull out four small "fingers." Apply yellow frosting over the hands.

    • 9

Cover the remaining two large marshmallows with brown frosting, matching SpongeBob's shorts. Place them at the bottom of the cake to represent the legs of his shorts.

    • 10

Roll the remaining four large Tootsie Rolls to make his legs, then use the yellow icing to cover them.

    • 11

Cover the Twinkies in black frosting, then place them under the legs as SpongeBob's shoes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Allow yourself plenty of time to create your SpongeBob cake, preferably early the morning of an afternoon party or the night before.
