How to Care for a Jade Flower

The Jade Flower is a perennial indoor plant that blooms in the winter. It is relatively hardy and easy to care for, making it a popular choice for homeowners in many areas. They can grow from seeds or cuttings, and they can even be used in outdoor gardens in desert climates. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

You can plant the Jade Flower seeds directly into fertilized potting soil, and they will germinate in a few weeks. Another option is to use cuttings by soaking them in water until the roots appear and then planting in the flower pot.

    • 2

Provide water sparingly. Jade Flower plants store water in their leaves, so they do not need very frequent watering. Let the soil dry out almost entirely before watering again. You will know that the plant needs water if the leaves start to curl up or wither. Otherwise, watering when the soil starts to dry out will be satisfactory.

    • 3

Provide sunlight and also darkness. Give the plant three to five hours of direct sunlight each day for proper growth. In October, provide total darkness at night so the plant can sprout flowers in December.

    • 4

Scare away pests. Spray the leaves of your Jade Flower plant with a dish soap and water mixture if you see any bugs on your plant (the most common ones would be mealybugs or mites). If this mixture does not work, try a stronger insecticide from your local garden center.

Tips & Warnings

  • The size of the pot you choose will determine the size of the plant's growth.

  • If your plant withers, it may have root rot or be over-watered. Stop watering it for a month to see if it improves.
