      Place the turkey in a deep pan to collect the fluids that will drain out of it as it thaws.

      Set the turkey out at room temperature for four to six hours and then place it in the refrigerator for 24 to 36 hours to complete the thawing process.

      Pull open the body cavity and reach inside to locate the bag containing the neck and giblets.
