How to Clean Eco-Friendly Hardwood Floor Surfaces

Caring for eco-friendly hardwood flooring, such as reclaimed wood or bamboo, is generally not too different than caring for regular hardwood floors since new technology has made eco-friendly floors just as durable and easy to care for as regular hardwood; this is yet another reason to choose eco-friendly materials. The most important part of cleaning eco-friendly floors is to follow the same philosophy of environmental responsibility that went into creating them. Homemade cleaning solutions for hardwood floors are not only more environmentally responsible and economical but are also better for you and your hardwood floors since they lack the harsh chemicals of commercial products.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 1/2 cup distilled white vinegar
  • 4 tea bags
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • Large spray bottle
  • Large measuring glass
  • Rags
  • Mop
  • Bucket
  1. Step 1

    Boil water and allow to cool for a minute or two unti the boiling subsides. Pour into a measuring glass until it fills the 3-1/2 cup line.

  2. Step 2

    Drop in the four tea bags and allow to steep for five minutes. Then remove the tea bags.

  3. Step 3

    Add 1/2 cup of of distilled white vinegar and 1/4 cup of lemon juice and mix. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.

  4. Step 4

    Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and shake.

  5. Step 5

    Spray the mixture onto your wood floors and wipe with a rag or mop.

  6. Step 6

    Dip a clean mop into a bucket of fresh water to rinse the solution from your floor, and dry with rags.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always consult your floor's manufacturer. Some eco-friendly floors, such as those that are unvarnished, require different care.
