How To Purchase An AIDS Test
It is not always necessary to purchase an HIV test; they are available, often for free, in clinical and other settings. Only one company, Home Access, offers an HIV test that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use by individuals in the home.

Purchasing an HIV Test

Visit the Home Access website (link below). Under the "Products" tab, which is located at the top left of the screen, review available HIV tests, which include the HIV-1 Test System and the Express HIV Test.

Decide which test you want to purchase and complete ordering steps as indicated by the website. You will have to enter credit card information and a shipping address.

Visit retail locations that market pharmaceutical products to buy the Home Access HIV-1 Test System without making an online purchase. You can call ahead to check for availability, to save time.

Follow all of the manufacturer's instructions for use of the test. Be aware that, though you can collect your blood specimen, you cannot run the test; your specimen must be returned to the company to be tested.

Save your identification number so that you can contact Home Access to obtain your test results. The company will not release your test results to you without this number; you cannot be identified by any other information.
Do not purchase HIV home tests other than the Home Access HIV-1 Test System and Home Access Express. No other tests have been approved by the FDA for use in the home.
