How to Get a Job on a Cruise Ship
-
1
First consider what kind of skills you posses. This will help you determine the best position for you to apply for. If you are a people person, then a position in hospitality or maybe even entertainment might be for you. If you are more mechanically inclined, maintenance and engine room work might interest you. There are also food service jobs if you enjoy working with food.

The first step to finding a job is to contact a cruise line recruiting agent. You can go directly through a specific cruise line. However, if you go to a recruiter your application and resume will be submitted to a whole list of cruise lines and you stand a better chance of finding a job. There is a link below that has a list of all the cruise line recruiting agencies around the world.

Once you contact the recruiting agency, they will do a brief interview over the phone and determine if you are qualified enough to come in and do a formal interview.
-
4
If you are called in for a formal interview, you will be asked about your work experience, abilities, skills and education. The interviewer will also try to determine if you will be able to handle a job on a cruise ship.
-
5
You will receive a letter of employment several weeks after the interview if they decide to hire you. This letter will explain the details of your position, the date and time of your departure and what cruise ship you will be on.
-
6
Once hired you will be required to sign a contract, normally for about six months. After this time you are required to take a month to two months off before signing on again. This is to prevent workers from becoming "burned out" at sea.

Work on a cruise ship is not for everyone, and is not the vacation that many people may think it is. A normal workday is 10-14 hours, seven days a week while the cruise ship is at sea.
You will live in a room shared by at least one other crew member and are not permitted to interact with passengers on your off time.
Crew members do have access to their own gym, fitness center, bar and pool. You will also get time off to enjoy all of the locations the cruise ship stops at around the world.
Pay ranges from $1,000 to $4,000 a month depending on the position. The highest wages are made by tip-based personnel such as bartenders and waiters/waitresses.
