How to Roast Corn on the Cob on a Gas Grill
When summer is in full swing and corn on the cob is in season, many people add fresh ears of corn to their weekly menus. Instead of heating up the kitchen by cooking the corn on the cob in a pot of boiling water, simplify the process by roasting your corn on a gas grill. 1
Wash the un-shucked ears of corn under cool water and use the kitchen shears to trim off any excess corn silk protruding from the tops of the ears. If any husks are loose, pull them off.
-
2
Fill the large bowl approximately three-quarters full of cool water. Place the clean, un-shucked ears of corn into the bowl so that they are under the water. Place something heavy over the ears of corn if they want to float.
-
-
3
Allow the corn to soak for approximately 15 minutes. Light the gas grill while the corn is soaking and preheat it on high.
-
4
Remove the corn from the bowl and hold the ears on end so that any excess water drains out from the ears. Reduce the grill heat to medium high and place the soaked corn onto the preheated grill. Close the grill cover.
-
5
Monitor the corn while it is grilling. Use the tongs to turn the corn approximately every five minutes so that the corn cooks evenly. The husks will brown significantly during the grilling, but this is acceptable. The corn cooking inside should be fine.
-
6
Remove the corn from the grill when the husks are charred. This typically takes approximately 15 minutes of grilling on a gas grill. Place the grilled corn onto the platter. Take the corn inside to the kitchen sink.
-
7
Hold one end of the hot corn with the tongs and peel back the husks carefully to remove them. Holding the corn ears under running warm water may help with this process. Remove as much of the husks and corn silk as you can and then rinse the ears under warm water. Rinse the platter also.
-
8
Place the hot corn on the cob onto the platter and serve immediately with butter and salt.
