How to Make Your Own Fly Attractant Traps
Flies can be a major pest, and some models of fly traps can be expensive. An easy-to-use fly trap can be made at home, however, saving you both time and money. The trap should only take a few minutes to make, and, aside from the fly bait that you use, you should be able to make the trap out of materials that you already have around your home. Things You'll Need
- Plastic 2-liter bottle
- Knife or box cutter
- String
- Hole punch
- Tape
- Fly bait

Clean your 2-liter bottle and allow it to dry. Use your knife or box cutter to cut the top section of the bottle off, approximately 1/3 of the way from the top. Take care to make the cut as straight as possible so that both sections that have been cut are relatively smooth.

Flip the top portion of the bottle over and place it into the bottom, lining up the two cut portions until they are approximately even. Use your hole punch to place two holes on opposite sides of the bottle through both portions.

Remove the top section from the bottom and fill the bottom section with fly bait. Take the cap off of the top section if you haven't done so already, then place the top section back into the bottom as you had before.

Line up the holes that you had punched previously and thread your string through each set of holes. Allow enough string so that you have at least 12 inches of string on each side of the fly trap; tie the ends of the string together.

Tape the top edge of the fly trap, making sure that the tape sticks to both the top and bottom portions that you had cut from the bottle. Apply a second layer of tape if you are concerned about whether the tape will be able to hold the top of the bottle in place.

Hang the fly trap in a location where flies are a problem. The flies will be attracted to the bait and will enter the bottle, but will be unable to navigate out through the bottle top in order to escape.
