How to Use Azelex for Rosacea
Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that causes symptoms on the face such as red skin and flushing, small red bumps, visible blood vessels, swollen skin, and a red swollen nose. An acne medicine called Azelex (azelaic acid) has been helpful in treating the symptoms of rosacea for some people. Azelaic acid promotes increased healing of the skin and helps to kill bacteria that cause rosacea.

How to Use Azelex for Rosacea
-
1
Clean the area where you will be applying Azelex with a mild cleansing lotion (not soap). Pat the area dry with a soft towel and apply the medicine as directed by your doctor. Be sure to wash your hands before and after applying Azelex. Apply Azelex twice a day, unless directed otherwise by your doctor. Avoid getting it close to your eyes, nose, mouth and lips, or areas of broken skin. If you get Azelex in any of these areas, be sure to rinse it off right away with water

2
Keep the area where Azelex was applied open to the air. Do not cover the area, or the medicine will be absorbed into your body which is harmful. Apply any missed doses once you remember to do so, unless it is nearly time for the next dose. Then skip the dose you forgot and apply the next scheduled dose.

Contact your doctor if you see a change in skin color; or if you experience dryness, burning or irritation. He may suggest that you cut back on applications. Keep using Azelex even if you don't see an improvement right away. It typically takes about a month to see any effects from Azelex.
