Fix Scratched Dvd

This article will tell you how to fix a scratched DVD. Learn several ways to clean DVD's so they will work again like new. Whether you rent or buy DVD's eventually they get will get a scratch or two and it is important to learn how to protect your investment and properly clean a DVD.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First look at your DVD in good light and determine how bad the scratches are. If there are a lot of scratches or appear to be deep grooves then you will want to take it back to the rental store or send back to the online DVD rental service.

  2. Step 2

If this is a DVD you own and you have to repair it yourself then you will want wipe the DVD off with a safe non lint cloth material.

  3. Step 3

If the DVD has severe scratches then you will want to take the disk to a DVD repair shop and have them buff out the scratches on the DVD. You can also buy your own DVD fixer device starting at around $40.

Tips & Warnings
  • I recommend paying for the disk protection if the DVD rental store like Blockbuster and Hollywood video stores have. That way if you break or damage the disk you will not have to pay the full retail value for the disk if the DVD is damaged.
  • If you use a lint cloth the fibers of the lint can actually scratch the DVD when you are attempting to dry or clean the face of the DVD disk.
