1. Locate your state's unemployment insurance website address.
   The exact address will vary by state, but you can contact the employment security department if you are not sure how to find the website.

2. Gather all personal information that will be required to file for unemployment online.
   Your social security number, date of birth, address, military and citizenship status will all be required to fill out an unemployment benefit application.

3. Enter information about your last employer into the application form.
   You will need the name of the employer, their address, your wages, and dates of employment.

4. Indicate whether or not you would like your unemployment insurance to be withheld for taxes.
   If you don't choose to withhold, you will likely have to pay into taxes around tax time.
