All of us " do-it-yourselfers" and animal owners, know the crazy high cost of getting our pets nails clipped!
Some pets are fine with it. Others turn into the "Pet from...."!Oh,yeah! The perfectly behaved pooch all of a sudden turns into...Ta Da! "Demon Dog "!T hey growl. they snarl, and sometimes bite. And a few will even turn into "Houdini do a quick disappearing/escape act!
Well may be able to help. I received a "Pedi-Paw" for Christmas last year, and love it. It's quick, fairly quiet, and easy.
Most pets are leary of anything new and especially if it makes noise. Therefore an introduction is needed.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Pet
  • Pedi-Paw
  • Lots of patience
  • Practice
  1. Step 1

Leaving the Pedi-Paw off, place it near your pet while they are relaxed, perhaps laying down. Talk and pet your pet and keep them relaxed, if possible. Do this for a few days, until they are relaxed enough with it that they remain even if you walk away.

  2. Step 2

Turn the Pedi-Paw on and place near your pet for a few seconds(you know your pets tolerance level).Repeat for a few days.

  3. Step 3
    After at home

    After at home

Turn on and leave on next to your pet for a bout five minutes. Repeat for a few days.(This does take some time)

  4. Step 4

Now following instructions, try using it. Go slow. One nail a day is fine. Until they get comfortable with it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Go slow.
  • This is a new sensation for your pet, and takes getting use to.
  • Gloves may be needed with cats.
  • Do not stay on same nail for more then a few seconds. excessive heat can burn pets.
  • Do not use on wet nails(can damage nails)
  • Do not use on polished nails(Polish is flammable, use extreme caution)

on 12/20/2009 This is a great article about taking it slow when getting a pet used to new activities. I know that shavers and "Pedi-Paws" and devices like that can be very scary at first ... but they can be trained to get accustomed to it!
