Are the floor mats in your vehicle dirty and grungy, even after you vacuum them? Well it is because there is sand and dirt trapped in the fibers and if you don't get the dirt out the mat will wear out and you will have to replace it. EXPENSIVE!!! Follow this guide to save some $$$.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A good Wet Dry Vac
  • Purple/Power Degreaser
  • A pressure washer
  • A stiff brush
  1. Step 1

Vacuum the mat as good as you can, then find a good tree and carefully beat the mat against it, don't get too crazy or wild or some environmentalist might call the police! HA-HA. There will be a lot of dust so get a dust mask if you don't want to flare up your allergies! If there is no tree, then a good old post will do or the ground if there is nothing else available. Vacuum the mat again, because the less dirt in the fibers the easier they will come clean.

  2. Step 2

Spray/Soak the mat with degreaser, a nice even coat soaking the mat is what you really want. Then if you care to get it extra clean, you can get a stiff brush and work the degreaser into the mat. Don't put the mat in the sun as the heat will dry the degreaser up and it won't be as effective!

  3. Step 3

After about an hour or so take the mat to an area that has good run off and proceed to pressure wash the mat. Now, you don't want a high pressure nozzle or you can cut holes in the mat, you want the widest fan nozzle you can get, and then you get about an inch or so from the mat and not destroy it. Keep the nozzle pointed in the same area until all the dirt has stopped coming out. You will use the nozzle like a brush, using strokes back and forth to get the dirt out. When you are done spraying hold the nozzle about a foot from the mat and work out the lines from your cleaning the mat, if you don't the mat will keep the lines as it is drying and won't come out!

  4. Step 4

If you get all the dirt to stop coming out of the mat then it is time to hang the mat up, in the sun if possible. Whatever you do, make sure the mat is crispy dry before you place it back into your vehicle!
