You have a great small business, now it's time to think about marketing. Did you realize that other than your company name your slogan will be seen\heard by more potential customers than any other marketing piece. So how do you create a strong slogan? You make sure it ties to your small business company name and logo.

Things You'll Need:

  • Sheet of paper
  • Vision of your small business
  • Demographics you target
  • List of what your business is about
  1. Step 1

    Brainstorm - Write down a list of know more than 3 words each describing how you see the company, the products you offer, what your unique selling point is, and any key qualities you want customers to know about whether it's service, fast delivery or quality product.

  2. Step 2

    Prioritize - Take that list and mark the top 5 items that you think are most important. These will be the ones we try to integrate into your slogan.

  3. Step 3

    Integrate - Take a copy of your letterhead with your small business name and logo on it. Compare those to the list of 5 items you prioritize which ones tie together well. You want the slogan to support your company name and logo, they should all tie together.

  4. Step 4

    Unique Selling Point - Your small business is special so you need to tell people why. Make sure your list includes that whether it's customer service, fast service, or quality product it should be included in your slogan.

  5. Step 5

    Memorable - Okay time to wordsmith take your list and try inserting your words into these typical slogans: "Make IT happen" (IBM), "Can you hear me now? Good" (Verizon) or "The leader in _____ and _____".

  6. Step 6

    Review and Tweak - This process takes about an hour so take a break and come back to review what you came up with. Does it tell what you do? Is it memorable? Does it tell your Unique Selling Point? Does it tie to your company name and logo?

Tips & Warnings
  • One of the best ways to brainstorm this is with a white board
  • Check out a list of slogans from other companies for ideas
  • As your driving around and see a good slogan write it down
  • Don't get too fancy or technical with the slogan anyone should be able to understand it. I don't know what "frangible" is.
  • Don't let this bog you down you can change it later if you need to.
