If you vacation in an area like Orlando, you will run into someone who offers to give you two free tickets to Disney or some other theme park in exchange for you listening to a 2 hour presentation for a new resort they just opened. Well if you have tried this before, you will know that this 2 hour presentation could take 4 hours if you are not careful. If you go into the timeshare presentation, following the tips below, you will get out quicker, with less pain and have your free tickets in your hand.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Willpower to resist high pressure sales tactics
  1. Step 1

SIGN UP WITH A SALES REP AND LEAVE THE DEPOSIT THEY REQUIRE. You will be asked to deposit $50 before you can attend the speech, but you will get it back.

  2. Step 2

ARRIVE AT THE LOCATION AND MEET THE SALESMAN. The salesman will be very friendly as he greets you but don't be fooled by this. By the end of the presentation, he will become quite nasty. He will start the presentation by asking where you are from. Wherever you are from, he has lived there before or has a relative who lives there.

  3. Step 3

ASK THE SALESPERSON HOW LONG THE PRESENTATION WILL TAKE AND MAKE IT CLEAR TO HIM THAT YOU EXPECT TO BE TREATED WITH RESPECT AT ALL TIMES . If he tells you it will take 2 hours, then look at your watch and tell him, "O.K., then this will be over by _____ p.m. I have tickets to a show and have to leave at this time."

  4. Step 4

DON'T ASK TOO MANY QUESTIONS AND DON'T LOOK TOO INTERESTED. You want him to finish his speech as soon as possible. You also want him to know that you are not there to buy. If he asks, "Are you just here wasting my time to get a free gift?", say "Yes".

  5. Step 5

ANSWER HIS QUESTIONS WITH ANSWERS THAT HE DOES NOT WANT TO HEAR. When he asks you the 3 places you want to vacation in the next 3 years, tell him that you want to go to some tiny towns that you know do not have timeshares. When he asks you how much you normally spend on a hotel per night, tell him you spend $30.00 a night at a budget hotel. When he asks you if you want to stay at a better place, tell him "No, the Budget Inn is very cozy and comfortable."

  6. Step 6

WHEN IT IS GETTING CLOSE TO THE 2 HOUR MARK, GET UP AND TELL HIM THAT YOU ARE READY TO LEAVE. When he gets belligerent with you, ask to see his boss. His boss will then try to coerce you into buying the timeshare and tell you that you have wasted their time, so you'll want to ask for his boss. After you see the second boss, they will give up and give you a voucher to get your free gift.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not feel guilty about not buying the timeshare. Timeshares are not a good investment. They are quite expensive and hard to get rid of and they have expensive yearly maintenance fees.
  • If you are having trouble terminating the speech, tell him that you have a throbbing headache or are diabetic and have to eat and you have to leave immediately.
  • Don't leave without your free disney tickets or free gift.
  • Don't be afraid to bargain for a better gift, but do this at the time that you sign up for the presentation. They won't bargain once you get there. They usually offer a $50 gift, but many will give you a $100 gift. You can also ask for cash in lieu of a gift. I have done this many times.
