Skin cancer occurs when there is abnormal growth in the skin cells. According to the Mayo Clinic website, there are three types of skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma, melanoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Ultraviolet light, which can damage the DNA in skin cells, plays a large role in skin cancer. Other risk factors for skin cancer are family history, chemical exposure and radiation exposure. With early detection, however, even the most aggressive conditions can be treated. The American Cancer Society website explains that some herbal treatments may provide benefits when used in conjunction with mainstream treatments such as laser therapy or chemotherapy.

  1. Step 1

Check Licorice Root. Licorice root is a Chinese herbal treatment that is used for a variety of conditions, including cancer, AIDS and inflammatory issues. This herb is available in capsule form (200 to 600mg doses). Studies in laboratories have identified substances in licorice, such as Licochalcone-A and glabridin, which may prevent tumor formation and kill cancer cells, explains the American Cancer Society.

  2. Step 2

Consider Using Flaxseed Oil. Laboratory research on animals indicates that flaxseed oil may reduce formation and growth of the serious skin cancer melanoma, according to the American Cancer Society. Flaxseed oil is available at most health food stores and is also available in whole-wheat products.

  3. Step 3

Check out Green Tea Supplements. Green tea extract in capsule form,or 1 to 2 teaspoons of the tea leaves soaked in boiling water may have anticancer properties, explains the American Cancer Society website. In laboratories, researchers found that compounds found in green tea may cut off blood supply to cancer cells.

  4. Step 4

Consider Using Ginseng. Ginseng has been used for thousands of years to promote good health. Compounds in this herb called ginsenosides, act as steroid hormones. This may boost the immune system and slow cancer growth, according to the American Cancer Society.
