Step 1
Get informed. Be aware that Sony just extended the warranty of all 2007 rear-view projections models (enacted at the end of October 2009) -- just like the previous years -- so all models now have extensions. Also be aware that they are not notifying the owners of these extensions even if owners have registered their purchases. There is a lot of information now circulating about how to recognize blue haze problems and the background of how the problem came about.
-
Step 2
Contact Sony directly about your LCD projection problem. Sony Customer Information Service Center (toll-free telephone support) is 1.800.222.7669. The Sony Customer Information Service Center ("Priority Service") in Florida is 239.768.7547.
-
Step 3
Expect to be told you will need to have your set evaluated by a Sony-Authorized service center. Be aware that even if you have your optical block placed replaced and the service charge refunded, it will only be a temporary fix until the replacement burns out again.
-
Step 4
Consider if other offers are right for you. Sony may offer you a discount on a new TV in their "Special Consideration Program". (They stopped making rear-projection televisions in 2007, but are now producing other flat paneled LCDs and other formats.) Make sure the offer is worth your while by pricing out other sources for buying TVs on sale or discounted before jumping at this offer.
-
Step 5
If you are not satisfied with Sony’s Customer Relations offers, you can appeal to their Executive Review Committee.
-
Step 6
If still dissatisfied with offers regarding blue haze problem on your Sony rear-projection TV, you can contact the Better Business Bureau.
-
Step 7
You can also take the legal approach. If all else fails, you can file a civil lawsuit such as small claims or have a lawyer initiate a class action suit.
