Wedding cupcake trees are an ideal choice for couples who want to have an unusual dessert and show off their own style or just avoid the traditional wedding cake. You can easily make cupcake trees at home and save the couple money. Plus, serving multiple flavors can accommodate everyone's tastes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cupcake mix
  • Cupcake paper liners
  • Cupcake baking tins
  • Frosting
  • Tiered cake stand
  • Single layer of cake
  • Decorative elements such as flowers and fruit - optional
  1. Step 1

Decide on the flavors you would like to serve. Bake the cupcakes in paper liners so you can easily remove them from the cupcake tins. Allow the cupcakes to cool.

  2. Step 2

Choose a decoration scheme or design for your cupcakes. Then frost all of the cupcakes and add your decorative elements on each individual cupcake. Some people add fresh flowers, plastic figurines, fresh fruit or fondant creations.

  3. Step 3

Purchase and set up a tiered cake stand or cupcake tree stand. If you don't have one, you can easily create one by cutting out circular pieces of cardboard and stacking them with pillars between each layer so the widest layer is on the bottom.

  4. Step 4

Set the cupcakes on the tiers. Arrange the cupcakes starting from the inside of each layer and working outward, so they are evenly spaced. If your cupcakes have different designs or colors, work with this to create an interesting overall design and look.

  5. Step 5

Place single layer of cake on the top tier so you have something to cut in order to keep some of the tradition alive. This is, of course, completely up to you and can be skipped. If you prefer not having a layer of cake on top, place a flower arrangement or other decorative element on the top tier to act as a cake topper of sorts.

  6. Step 6

Fill in the spaces between the cupcakes with decor such as flowers or wedding trinkets--or use additional desserts such as chocolate-covered strawberries, petit fours or miniature cakes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use cupcake caps for the tops of the cupcakes instead of decorating with frosting.
