How to Convert an XLS Drawing to a Bitmap
XLS is the default format for files generated by older versions of the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet application (Excel 2007 uses the XLSX format), and a bitmap is an image file type often used in or generated by such image editing software programs as Microsoft Paint. Converting an XLS file or drawing (think charts and graphs) into a bitmap (BMP format) is pretty simple and involves a few keystrokes, so long as you have a graphics program handy.
Instructions

1
Open the Microsoft Excel file that contains the drawing you want to convert.
-
2
Select the portion of the Excel file or drawing that you want to convert. This can be done by clicking and holding down the left mouse button, and then dragging to select the drawing or part of the file you want to convert. At this point, a gray box and black borders should enclose the drawing that you have selected.

3
Right-click and choose the "Copy" option from the context menu. This will copy the contents of what you have selected to the clipboard.
-
4
Open a software program on your computer that can handle bitmap image files. Windows operating systems usually come equipped with the free Microsoft Paint application, in case you do not have any other graphics programs installed on your computer.
-
5
Paste the contents of the XLS drawing that you copied to the clipboard into the graphics software program. In Microsoft Paint, this can be done by choosing "Paste" from the "Edit" menu or by right-clicking anywhere in the blank canvas and choosing "Paste" from the context menu appears.
-
6
Convert the XLS drawing that you have now copied over to the graphics software program into a bitmap image file. In Microsoft Paint, as well as many other graphics programs, this can be done by choosing "Save As" from the "File" menu, naming your file, choosing ".bmp" from the "Save As Type" drop-down menu in the dialog box and clicking the "Save" button.
