How to Remove Gum From a Dog's Hair
Few dog owners would argue the fact that dogs are messy animals. They get into anything and everything, including mud, trash and the dreaded chewing gum. When you find your beloved pooch with a coat full of gum, panic sets in. The good news is that gum is fairly easy to remove from your best friend's coat by using simple ingredients you probably already have at home. The hardest part is keeping your Fido still while you work your gum-removal magic.

1
Hold a few cubes of ice to the gum to freeze it. The gum will be very hard when it has completely frozen.
-
2
Peel the gum away from the dog's fur using your fingers. Hold the root of the fur in place while peeling away the gum so as to prevent your dog from feeling any pain. Try carefully using a safety pin to help separate the fur from the gum. Apply more ice to re-freeze the gum if it begins to thaw.

Apply peanut butter or mayonnaise to the fur if any gum remains. Rub the peanut butter or mayonnaise into your dog's fur to help loosen the gum. It may take a while to completely remove all of the gum residue.

Tips & Warnings
To help prevent dogs from getting into another sticky situation, wrap the gum in a piece of paper before throwing it away.
If all else fails, carefully cut the gum from your dog's coat using a sharp pair of scissors. His fur will grow back and he won't mind a patch missing in the meantime.
The same methods for removing gum from a dog's coat can remove gum from human hair.
