Things You'll Need:

Step 1
Wait until your area receives a hard frost in late fall before pruning hardy hibiscus.

Step 2
Cut all the stems back to 4 or 5 inches from the ground. Cut each stem at a slight angle with the pruning shears.

Step 3
Cover the cut stems with a 3-inch layer of mulch. The mulch will protect the stems from snow and wind.
