How to Repair Pearl Grandfather Clocks

Instructions

1. Open the side panel of the Pearl grandfather clock if only the left weight is not dropping. Raise the steel chime retard bar if it has been lowered. A lowered retard bar will prevent the chimes from working, and the left weight from falling. Swing the other hammers to make sure they move freely.

2. Check the chime lever on the chime dial of the grandfather clock if both the left and right weights refuse to fall. The chime lever should be centered on the dial. Open the side panel of the clock, and check the chime retard bar to make sure it is not in the up position.

3. Adjust the pendulum if all three weights refuse to drop. A pendulum that will not swing will prevent the time train from moving. The time train is what ultimately moves the gears inside the Pearl grandfather clock.
