How to Kill Pinworm Eggs
Pinworms are a parasitic worm that are about one-half inch in length that live in the intestines of humans and animals. The most obvious symptom of a pinworm infestation is itching, especially at night when worms move outside the rectum to lay eggs. The best way to rid yourself and your house of pinworm eggs is to kill all mature pinworms using a prescription wormer.

Make an appointment to visit your family doctor or pediatrician if you suspect any member of your family has pinworms.

Identify the pinworm infestation. Your doctor may apply sticky tape to the rectum area. Pinworm eggs will be visible on the tape under a microscope.

Purchase worming medicine as prescribed by your doctor. Every family member should be treated if one family member is infected. Follow directions exactly as noted on your medication to kill adult pinworms and pinworm eggs.

Clean your house including washing sheets, clothing, towels and dishes on the day that you are taking medication. Anything that an infected hand could have touched.

Clip short the fingernails of anyone that is infected.

Call your doctor if you encounter problems with excessive vomiting or diarrhea during treatment.

Repeat the treatment two weeks later if directed by your doctor to kill any additional pinworms that may have hatched in the intestinal tract. Killing all adults will stop the cycle of the creation of new eggs.

Tips & Warnings
Always wash your hands with soap after using the restroom. Pinworm eggs can be transferred from the fingers to many surfaces such as towels, bed linens, toilets, drinking glasses, pajamas, underwear, toys, sandboxes and bathroom fixtures. Eggs can live on these surfaces without a host for two to three weeks.
Always use paper seat covers on public toilets if they are available, or do not sit down on them.
Children are the most susceptible to infection. Bathe your child and change underwear every day.
Raw foods served at restaurants can be contaminated with pinworm eggs. To avoid the transfer from an infected restaurant worker to you or your family, do not eat raw foods that have been hand tossed or generally handled by employees. Ask your waiter how your salads are prepared before choosing this item for your meal.
To be sure your restaurant table is not contaminated, carry a baggy of disinfectant wipes with you to clean your table surface.
